GmailFS, a cool tool

Gmail filesystem is a cool idea. It allows you to create a new drive in your filesystem called GmailDrive. Then on the GmailDrive you can copy files, once a file is copied the tool sends a mail to your gmail account with the file as an attachment. This way one can actually use the 1gb storage that Gmail offers to store your important files. check out the windows and the linux versions of the Gmail FileSystem. I have use the windows version, works great.

How do we use this ?

  1. Set up a Gmail drive in office and setup one at home, now if you want to carry some document home, just copy it into the Gmail drive in office and go home and get it back from the home Gmail drive. Cool isnt it !!
  2. Create a brand new Gmail account, one that will not be used for mails but used only as a GMail drive. Copy stuff that you want to share with your freinds, into your gmail drive. Share you gmail account password with your freinds and then they can setup a gmail drive on their machines and get access to the files that you shared. This can become a very easy way to share files with people. Note, you can create folders in you gmail drive, thus it would be possible for you to just send the completed address bar contents from your Gmail drive and the recepient can just paste the address and get to the intended file.
Thanks Richard Jones(The brain behind this cool tool).
